A Bit About Me

Hello, my name is Kelsey, and I am so excited you have landed here!  I am a 500 hr RYT and RPYT. Whether you are brand new to yoga, someone who has practiced off and on their whole life or someone who has a regular practice this space is welcome to you.  My journey through yoga has been all the above at one time or another. I have special interest and am passionate about creating yoga practices that are inclusive and welcoming for anyBODY and supporting the pre and postnatal communities.

My yoga practice began in my early 20’s, at the time I was a runner and used yoga to incorporate stretching and mobility into my training. But in 2016 I lost my husband suddenly and at age 26, I became a widow. My whole world fell apart around me, my partner of 10 years, the life I thought I was going to have, our future together was gone. It took time and commitment to healing, but I eventually got back into moving my body with running and yoga again.  However, this time when I landed in the classroom, I truly was a whole new person.  At the time I mainly practiced Yin and this is where I found the magic of yoga, this was my way to release emotions I had been holding onto long before the loss of my husband and an outlet to help heal my mind and soul.

Then in 2018, I met Tyler the person who would join me on my journey teaching me to love again, both him and I.   In 2020 we were married, and the following year welcomed your son Griffin into the world in the middle of a worldwide pandemic.  This is where my trauma resurfaced, now living with post partum anxiety, generalized anxiety disorder, and panic attacks I knew I needed to heal myself to be there for my new baby. I spent most days obsessive about my health, my body was not a safe place to be, I worried each day I woke up that it would be my last.  I continued CBT with my therapist, but I still felt something was missing and that is when I found somatic therapy.  I worked hand in hand with a nuromovment practitioner and in the following months seen vast improvement in my mental and physical health.  This is where I returned to my mat.  I found a lot of similarities in somatic therapy and yoga and this was when I decided to take a deep dive into learning the art of yoga, and signed up for my 200hr teacher training AND 300hr teacher training almost simultaneously as I had found a 300hr program that aligned with me more then I could imagine, Canmore Counselling Trauma Informed Yoga Phycology School.  This 300hr training truly changed my life, the cohort in which I was apart of supported, held and helped me heal more then I ever could have imagined.  Dr Melissa Jay, founder and lead facilitator of the program has truly created magic, and I am so grateful and fortunate to have learn, unlearned and continue to be mentored by her as well I am blessed to have gained an incredible friend along the way. I do fully believe yoga helped me live a life where I wasn’t consumed by fear and anxiety and helped me become a better person all around.  I know there is so much more to learn, and I believe I will always be a student in some way or another. I am dedicated to learning and unlearning as my journey unfolds.
